The Sleepy Hamlet

Stasera una cena emiliana a base di tigelle e lambrusco!  Alberto invita a casa un poeta sassolese - Emilio Rentocchini - la cui fama ha di gran lunga superato il distretto ceramico. Artista nostrano, nato nel '49, che scrive versi (ottave per la precisione) in dialetto (curandone anche la traduzione in italiano) ed è tifoso sfegatato della Reggiana. Alberto racconta di quando una volta, allo stadio appunto, fa sapere a Rentocchini che il suo ultimo libro in prosa non gli è piaciuto; il poeta vuole ridargli immediatamente indietro i soldi di tasca propria! Un personaggio così, dunque. Schivo, semplice e simpatico; a cui è stato dedicato un film nel 2006 ( Giorni in prova. Emilio Rentocchini poeta a Sassuolo  a cura di Daria Menozzi)e che anche quest'anno, in sordina, ha vinto un premio letterario a Pordenone (Premio Cappello).  Nell'esplorare i suoi versi, che non conoscevo, mi ha colpito la delicatezza.  V'invito a scoprirlo con la raccolta di poesie " O

We said we would be back with a new column in September... and we did! As you may assume from the title a writer is going to be the protagonist, together with you, my dear reader. Which writer would you fancy sharing a table with? I have recently been back to the Highlands and decided that I had to start again  my new column in this beloved place.  So, here is   Mairearad - a Highlander, an artist, a friend. Who's the author she has chosen?  Well, Mairearad  has just had a delicious lemon drizzle  cake and some coffee with... Elizabeth K Reeder !She's a Professor of  Creative Writing at Glasgow University and she wrote the two books you see on the table: "Ramshackle" and "Fremont". Mairearad met her for real on the Isle of Skye for a Folk Music Festival (Small Halls) and said this woman has been amazing to speak with and  a great source of ispiration, that is why she would choose her for an afternoon tea!
